SPEAKING ACTIVITY EXAMPLE
Hello everyone!
I want to share with you one example of a speaking activity to do with our students! I know that it is better to use realistic situations to enhance our students speaking, but also, it is true that we can use some cooperative and interactive activities, we can improve vocabulary learning and take it off student's fear about talking English in public.
This activity can be connected with the latter Listening Activity.
The teacher can ask if anybody remembers the song (" The Hobbies Song for Kids - What do you like to do? ") with the following questions:
• Can anybody tell me what we learned in the latter session?
• Who can remember five hobbies that appear in the song?
• Who are the characters of the video song? Pirates, mermaids, or monsters?
• Did you ever practice one of the hobbies named?
All the learners must be to answer one of the questions above, and we can put the answers in common; this little debate can last 10 minutes approximately. After that, the teacher gives twelve flashcards for each group. Before the activity starts, the teacher will project the flashcard images on the whiteboard to explain the activity. Every flashcard has a hobby represented by one image and word, and they can review all the vocabulary while the teacher is sharing it. Afterwards, the teacher will explain the game of the day, “Hedbanz”. The game consists in one player has to put one flashcard on her/his forehead and starts asking some yes or no questions which his/her classmates have to answer to guess which hobby has. For example:
• Is one type of sport?
• Do I need a guitar to do it?
• Can I do it in the sea?
• Do I need a camera?
• Etc.
The game is played in groups, they can be the table groups of the classroom (if you have this type of organisation in the classroom). Every student has to play minimum 3 times, this means that everybody has to participate.
Example of the flashcards:

Thanks for all!
Hello!!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I would like to congratulate you for your blog.
You have choose very fancy tittles and atractive images, what I think it´s very importante in order tp catch those age students´ attention.
Its task are quite good organised, as well, It is very intuitive and the information has been set in a way that the students can guide themselves. What it´s very importante in my opinion to get them to develop their autonomy skills.
I hope this comments encourage you to keep doing well.
Kind regards,
Rosa
